Pearson Test of English (PTE)
Pearson Test of English (PTE) provides secure English language testing for study applications worldwide, and for visa applications for work and migration in Australia, the UK, New Zealand and Canada. Choose the test that matches your goal.
PTE Academic
Accepted worldwide for study and immigration. This computer-based test assesses academic-level speaking, writing, reading and listening in a test-centre environment and takes approximately two hours. Choose it for global university study and eligible work or migration visa applications. It is also recognised by U.S. state Boards of Nursing for work visas. Check the requirements of the relevant institution or authority.
PTE Core
A general English test accepted in Canada for immigration. It assesses general speaking, writing, reading and listening in a single test of approximately two hours. Choose PTE Core if you are applying for permanent residency in Canada or Canadian citizenship.

PTE Home & UK Visa Test Options

PTE Home
A Secure English Language Test (SELT) accepted by the UK Home Office for specified visa routes:
- Spouse visa
- Parent of a Dependent visa
- Representative of an Overseas Business
- Sportsperson visa
It may also be used when extending a Spouse visa or a Parent of a Dependent visa, subject to the applicable requirements.
PTE Academic UKVI
An approved four-skill Secure English Language Test (SELT). It is the same test as PTE Academic, but includes a Unique Reference Number (URN) for a UK visa application.
Study visa route: accepted for a Student route visa for study below degree level (such as foundation, pathway or professional English courses), and/or at a place that is not a Higher Education Institution.
Important: for degree-level study or above at a Higher Education Institution, take PTE Academic and check the institution's specific English requirements.

PTE Academic UKVI can be used for applicants on the following visa routes:
